Living by Faith (Part 2)

If you can see it, it's not faith!

September 3, 2019

"For we walk by faith, not by sight."

2 Corinthians 5:7

Part 2

Yesterday:
“For we walk by faith,”
We place our eternal souls in the care of our God, whom we cannot see, but who we know and love dearly.

Today:
“Not by sight.”
We are not living by “appearances.”  There is something much surer that guides us day by day.  We do not try to live by our wits, but by His command, lead by His gentle hand.  He’s the “good Shepherd” who will not lead us astray.

In this life, we are not “walking by sight.”

“The main idea is, that we are not influenced and governed by the sight.  We are not governed and controlled by the things which we see, and we do not see those things which actually influence and control us.  In both it is faith that controls us, and not sight”1 (Barnes).

“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (1 Corinthians 13:12).

In this life, our sight is dim, and because we cannot see clearly, living by faith is the only thing that makes sense to the believer.

How do you know that you will be in Jesus’ presence in heaven when you leave this body behind on the earth?  We are not walking by sight, but by faith!

Living by Faith2
By James Wells, and R. E. Winsett

1 I care not today what the morrow may bring,
If shadow or sunshine or rain,
The Lord I know ruleth o’er everything,
And all of my worries are vain.

Refrain:
Living by faith in Jesus above,
Trusting, confiding in His great love;
From all harm safe in His sheltering arm,
I’m living by faith and feel no alarm.

2 Though tempests may blow and the storm clouds arise,
Obscuring the brightness of life,
I’m never alarmed at the overcast skies—
The Master looks on at the strife. [Refrain]

3 I know that He safely will carry me through,
No matter what evils betide;
Why should I then care though the tempest may blow,
If Jesus walks close to my side. [Refrain]

4 Our Lord will return for His loved ones some day,
Our troubles will then all be o’er;
The Master so gently will lead us away,
Beyond that blest heavenly shore. [Refrain]
