The Truth about God (Part 5)

There can only be "one true God."  God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in the Bible is He.

"And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

John 17:3

Part 5

Previously:

– We can see that God is the “only true God.”
– We can see that there is no one else like God, He is unique.
– We can see that God transcends heaven and earth, and time and space.
– We can see that God is the Savior, the only Savior from sin.

Today:  Jesus Christ is God!

We have been looking at what the Bible teaches about God (theos in the New Testament).  Before we end these thoughts, we need to look at what the Bible says about Jesus Christ as God.

The name “God” is also used of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.  Let’s see what the Scriptures have to say about this truth.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

“And the Word [Jesus] was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

“No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him” (John 1:18).

“But unto the Son He [God the Father] saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom” (Hebrews 1:8).

“Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever.  Amen” (Romans 9:5).

God sent His Son Jesus to provide humanity with the only way of salvation.  To receive this wonderful gift of eternal life, we must believe in Jesus Christ, His person, and His works.

“And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” (John 20:28-29).

Thomas had the incredible privilege of being with Christ for three years, and he believed.  God says we who have not seen Him in person, but only through the eyes of faith and have believed in Him, are blessed.  As we put our faith and trust in Him, He gives us eternal life.  Friend, have you put your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation?

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20).

“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:1).

And it is this same Jesus Christ that we believers faithfully watch and wait for His return today.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

“He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.  Amen.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).

Quote:  “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh” (James 5:8).

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth” (Psalm 57:5, 11).
