The Living Word is Eternal (Part 1)

The living Word of God is eternal.  He is the giver of life!

"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God."

John 1:1-2

Part 1

“In the beginning.”
These words, penned originally by Moses, point us back to eternity past before there was time, or any created thing made yet.  As Moses continues his writing, he brings us into time, in the beginning, and “down to earth” as we watch its creation.  John the Apostle takes us to the same point, “in the beginning,” before anything was created, and then he points us “up to God” and explains God’s point of view “in the beginning.”

“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God” (Psalm 90:2).

God is eternal before the world was here, God was, and after the world is gone,  God will continue as He was, the eternal God.

“Was the Word.”
The Word, eternal with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, was never a part of the creation, but He was with God before “the beginning.”  The Word is the Creator, and not a created being.

“The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:2-3).

The Greek text says that “not even one thing was made without Him.”

“And the Word was with God.”
The presence of the Word has always been with God the Father.

“And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5).

“Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world” (John 17:24).

The Father and the Word had eternal, intimate fellowship together before creation.

What else can we learn about the Word from this passage?  Come back tomorrow and let’s talk more.
