The Holy Spirit in the Resurrection

God's Holy Spirit gives lost sinners life, and then He lives in them! This knowledge gives my heart peace for my future.

"But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you."

Romans 8:11

“But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you.”
Every child of God has God’s Holy Spirit living in him/her.  No exceptions, no exemptions.  It is impossible for a real blood-bought believer to not have the Holy Spirit.  A man or woman who does not have the Holy Spirit is still lost and dead in their sins.

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.  Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, He is none of His” (Romans 8:9).

What has the Holy Spirit done in the believer?  Many things, but He begins with giving a lost sinner – life, because of Jesus Christ’s righteousness.

“And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness” (Romans 8:10).

Believers, we have a physical, natural body that is in the process of dying.  But we also have life in the Spirit that can never die.  The Holy Spirit, who restored Jesus Christ to life and brought him out of the grave on the third day, is the one who gives each believer life in Christ.  It is the same Holy Spirit who now lives in all you who know Jesus personally.

“He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

Just to be sure we understand, Paul repeats, this same Holy Spirit who brought Christ from the dead is the same one who lives in you, and He is the one who gives us life at salvation.  He is the one who makes dead sinners alive in Christ!  And then He comes to live in the formerly dead sinner.

“[H]is Spirit that dwelleth in you — ‘Your bodies indeed are not exempt from the death which sin brought in; but your spirits even now have in them an undying life, and if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, even these bodies of yours, though they yield to the last enemy and the dust of them return to the dust as it was, shall yet experience the same resurrection as that of their living Head, in virtue of the indwelling of same Spirit in you that quickened Him’” (JFB).

Praise the Lord for God’s Holy Spirit that lives in believers.
