No Want!

God meets believers' needs.

"O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."

Psalm 34:9-10

“O fear the LORD, ye His saints.”
Believers, revere Him humbly.  Obey Him with childlike trust.  Live in His will.  Walk thoughtfully with Him that we do not offend Him.  Honor Him.  Talk with him.  He is the LORD and our God!

He is great, and we are not.
He is strong, and we are weak.
He needs nothing, and we are needy.
He loves us, and we love him in return.

We are to never fear the anger of ungodly people because it is the Lord only that we fear.

“His saints,” are those separated unto Him, and with hearts distant from the world.

“For there is no want to them that fear Him.
How can a God so great not care about His children?  He does care!  Our Lord will not let His child starve.  God’s child may not always have the biggest and the best, but he has the promise of God that his needs will be met.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.  Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” (Matthew 6:33-34).

“Men seek a patron and hope to prosper; he prospers surely who hath the Lord of Hosts to be his friend and defender”[1] (Spurgeon).

“The young lions do lack and suffer hunger.”
Did you know that lions can go hungry?  When they hunt, they do not always catch their prey.  They may expend a lot of energy on the chase, and never have a meal at the end of it.  And the young lions depend upon the older, more experienced lions to hunt and bring food to them.  When the hunt fails, the young lions do not eat.  They go hungry.

“But they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.”
Believers, we will not lack the good things the Lord has for us.  In the Hebrew text, this word “good” is emphatic, it is definite.  But you might be thinking, do not believers still have afflictions?  Yes, but remember our God does everything in us and through us for our good and His glory.  Even our hardships are for our blessing.  Paul understood this well when he wrote,

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

Believers let us keep our gaze on the eternal and measure our present troubles in the light of that.  To God, be the glory!
