My Sin is Massive! (Part 2 of 4)

"Alas! and did my Savior bleed and did my Sov'reign die?  Would He devote that sacred head for such a worm as I?" (Watts)

"For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great."

Psalm 25:11

Part 2

Yesterday:
“For thy name’s sake.” (a)
God always acts in keeping with who He is.  He is our Sovereign Lord.

Today:
“For thy name’s sake.” (b)
David, in his humble way, knew his place in God’s universe.  He knew that Jehovah is God, and he was not.  He understood very well that the LORD cares for His child.  Here are some ways He loves us,

He revives and leads His child in the right paths.

“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3).

He protects, leads, and guides His child.

“For thou art, my rock and my fortress; therefore, for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me” (Psalm 31:3).

He mercifully delivers His child out of the hands of enemies.

“Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul. But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me” (Psalm 109:20-21).

He gives life and gets His child out of trouble.

“Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble” (Psalm 143:11).

Did you notice that all these things He does for His child are done “for His name’s sake?”

It is because of the LORD’S great name that He provides for the needs of His child.  It is His reputation that is at stake.  We want to believe that what people think about us is so important that we are vital cogs in God’s Creation.  The truth be told, it is His reputation as our Father, Helper, Defender, Provider, and our God that is on the line.  He is not in His heavens to make us look good.  But we are on His earth, breathing His air, drinking His water, and eating His food to bring honor and glory to His name!  Dreadful things happen in our thinking (and ultimately in our lives) when we get these roles reversed.

Lord, help us bless your holy name as we ought, and through our lives, give You the glory that You alone deserve.  Forgive us, Lord, for our sinful thinking, that You are our servant who must do our bidding.  We are your subjects, and You are our Sovereign.  Please, use us, as you see fit!  Lord, we love You and need You.  Amen.

Tomorrow we will look to our LORD and His forgiveness for our sin. Please join us then.

Quote:  “We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.  Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red Sea.  Nevertheless, he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known” (Psalm 106:6-8).
