Jesus is God’s Promised Redeemer (Part 3 of 3)

This is the first time that God promised His Son, Jesus, will come to earth to redeem sinners who trust in Him.

"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel."

Genesis 3:15

Part 3

Yesterday:  Why did Jesus Need to Come to Earth?

Today:  God’s Promise to Send the Savior

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman.”
That dreadful day in the Garden, God pronounced His sentence on each of the participants in Man’s Fall.  God began a war with Satan that day.  To the “serpent” (Satan), He said he and the woman would now be enemies.  Evidently, the serpent in Eden was an upright walking and beautiful creature.  From that time forward, they will be “crawling on their belly’s and licking the dust” (Genesis 3:14; Isaiah 65:25; Micah 7:17).  Indeed, that day Satan became the enemy of all mankind.

“And between thy seed and her seed.”
Here is an intriguing thought about the “serpent’s seed” and the “woman’s seed.”  Throughout the Bible, the godless line of Cain can be traced.  Their hatred of God, His Word, and His people is a give-away.  Today, this ungodly seed of the serpent abounds!

“Her seed.”  In the Scriptures, “seed” is always attributed to a male, with this one exception (Genesis 3:15; Revelation 12:17).  There is only one woman in the Bible who has a baby without the seed of the man.  Mary bore Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit as the Father.  He provided what she needed to have a child.  Her “seed” will be the coming Messiah, His incarnation[1] promised the first time that day in the Garden by God.  He will defeat Satan once and for all.

There are two human lines through the Bible.  There is the ungodly line of Cain.  And there is the redeemed line, those saved by God’s grace, the godly line.  To which line do you belong?

“It shall bruise thy head.”
The serpent’s (Satan’s) bruised head is a killing wound.  The skull is crushed, and the serpent dies!  Oh, it will wiggle around a while until it figures out that it is dead.  But the blow is fatal!

“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.  Amen” (Romans 16:19).

“And thou shalt bruise his heel.”
Looking forward to the Cross: Jesus will come and lay down His life on the cross in our place and pay for our sin.  He will be raised from the dead on the third day by His Father, the head-crushing blow to Satan.  Satan’s attack wounded our Lord at Calvary.  He suffered a crushed heal.  What Adam destroyed that day in the Garden, Jesus will come and give His life to restore.  Though Jesus’ heel was crushed, the wound was not mortal, for He is alive and well!

Praise God for His perfect plan of redemption for mankind!

Quote:  “Depending on the date of Adam and Eve, it would be at least 4,000 years before that promise would be fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was bruised on the heel by Satan in the crucifixion, but who bruised him on the head through the resurrection”[2] (Steven Cole).  PTL!

[1] “Incarnation” means literally “in the flesh.”  God will send His Son Jesus, God “in the flesh,” to save man from his sin.  Jesus is 100% God, and 100% man, the God-Man.
