I Shall Be Satisfied! (Part 2 of 2)

After death, believers will be like Christ.

April 22, 2020

"As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness."

Psalm 17:15

Part 2

Yesterday:
“As for me.”
David tells us what he believes about the resurrection.

“I will behold thy face in righteousness.”
Not only does David believe he will see God, but he will have an unhindered fellowship with Him.

“I shall be satisfied.”
David will be satisfied when he is permanently in God’s presence.

“When I awake.” (a)
New life after death.

Today:
“When I awake.” (b)
Believers, we too shall be awakened by Christ one day.

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:20-22).

“Though David’s focus was on eternity, this verse does not ignore the present day.  There is a real sense in which these realities – closer fellowship with God, His righteousness in our life, a life truly awake, a life more and more conformed to His image – can in greater and greater measure be ours in this life.  We should remember that eternal life begins now” [1] (Guzik).

“With thy likeness.”
What a disappointment it would be if we had to drag around this sinful flesh, our “old man,” throughout eternity.  Jesus will not only raise us from the dead, but He will change these bodies into one like His.  Finally, a life without sin!

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52).

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).

Blessed Assurance[2]
By Fannie Jane Crosby

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
