His Provision for My Need

Thank you, Lord, for your daily care!

"Give us this day our daily bread."

Matthew 6:11

“Give us.”
“Lord, this is not a demand, but my humble prayer.”

I am in no place to make demands of God.  He is my Creator and my Savior and my Father.  As His child, I approach and ask my Father for help.  He tenderly bids me come to Him as a little child goes to a loving parent.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15).

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6).

And because of our relationship with the Father by His Son, we can boldly bring our needs to Him (Hebrews 4:15-16).

“This day.”
“Lord, here are my needs for today, but you already know them.”

It’s not tomorrow’s needs I ask for now, but what I need for today.  You cared for my needs so well yesterday, and the day before, and for each day so long as I can remember.  So, I know you will provide for today also.

You know what I need to live and to serve you this day, even better than I do.

“Our daily bread.”
“Lord, I’m only asking you for what is sufficient for today.”

I can only live one day at a time.  I can wear only one set of clothes at a time, eat one meal at a time, and live this day today.  You have provided for today what I need for this day.  Worrying about tomorrow will not change the outcome.  You have told me not to worry about such mundane things.  Because you have met my need for today, I can count on you to take care of what I will need for tomorrow as well.  Jesus’ words remind me of your care,

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.  Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” (Matthew 6:33-34).

Dear Lord, thank you for meeting each need I have one day at a time!
