Happy and Contented (Part 2)

The Believer’s Character:  A true believer is satisfied with the Lord’s provision.

"And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

1 Timothy 6:8

Part 2

Yesterday:
“And having food and raiment.” (a)
These are basic needs for each person.  God assures the believer that He will meet these needs for them.

Today:
“And having food and raiment.” (b)
Jesus taught that these basic needs our Heavenly Father will faithfully provide for us.

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:31-33).

Will you trust God to meet your needs?  Believer, don’t spend your life worrying about food and clothing.  This is what the lost Gentiles are concerned about.  We don’t live that way anymore!  These are not the most essential things in our life, but living for Christ and God’s Kingdom is.  As we spend our lives in service for the King,  He will see to our needs for food and clothing.

“Let us be therewith content.”
The Lord will provide.  Are you content with the Lord’s provision?  These words, we need to heed “be therewith content.”  Be satisfied with what He has provided for you.  The Greek word for content is the word translated as “sufficient” here,

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Have you found your need met in Christ Jesus?

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).

We have the Lord, what else do we need?  Instead of chasing after the sinful world’s idea of happiness, we need to learn the contentment of being satisfied with what our Father provides for us.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6).

Believers, please understand true happiness does not depend upon your bank balance!
