God’s New Prophet (Part 1 of 2)

A Prophet like Moses is promised to come.  The world had better listen to Him!

"The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him, ye shall hearken."

Deuteronomy 18:15

Part 1

Today:  A New Prophet

Many centuries after Adam and Eve, God raised up Moses to lead His children the godly line, Egypt, and into the Promised Land.  He was a godly prophet who was extensively used by the Lord.  He wrote the Pentateuch,[1] and set up the Tabernacle worship, and he led God’s people in the wilderness.

God gives His children a clear warning about when they go into their new land.  The inhabitants will be the ungodly line, who do “abominable practices” that offend the Holy God.  They need to make up their minds before they enter the land to do right and be right with their God to continue the godly line (Deuteronomy 18:13).  They must obey Him.  To the Children of Israel in the new land, they will need a new and different Prophet.

“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him” (Deuteronomy 18:18).

“The LORD thy God.”
Jehovah will send them a new Prophet.  Today, as when Moses was alive, there are many voices out there who will try to sway people with their words.  Who do we listen to?  It is incredibly crucial to know who the voices are speaking for.  Very few voices are speaking for God.  Jehovah makes it clear for His people that they should listen only to the voices that He sends.  As was Moses, this new promised Prophet will also be sent by Jehovah.

“Will raise up unto thee a Prophet.”
This Prophet will be unique.  He will be like no other prophet.  This new Prophet will not only be sent by God, but He will also be God, “God in human flesh!”  In Bible study terms, we call this “the Incarnation.”  God will put on flesh and blood so that He can come and live as a man with men and women on His created earth.  But why would God do this?

Ever since Adam’s failure in the Garden, every child born on earth has been born a sinner.  Adam was created “innocent,” but became a sinner when he disobeyed God.  He has passed on his tainted blood to each individual after him.  The problem for mankind is there is a terrible penalty attached to sinners; it is death!  Not only physical death but spiritual separation from God for eternity, in Hell.  The only hope for man’s redemption is the Savior that God promised He will send in man’s behalf (Genesis 3:15).  The promise that God made to Adam and Eve that day is remembered as Moses repeats God’s commitment to the people.

But where will this new Prophet come from, and what will He be like?  Come back tomorrow, and we will think about this.

Quote:  “Every religion has a prophet who is pointing people to God.  Jesus is the only one who says, ‘I am God, and I am coming to find you’”[2] (Timothy Keller).
