God Loves His Children

God lovingly cares for, provides for, and protects His child.

"Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven."

Matthew 18:10

“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones.”
It is a severe sin to “despise” one of God’s little ones.  If God loves them, shouldn’t we?  They ought to be given care and treated lovingly.  We know that God protects the humble, and He watches over His little ones.

“The disciples were reminded of the value the Lord places on these little ones (… [Matthew] 18:6, 14).  Children are important to God” [1] (BKC).

And not just children alone –

“One of these little ones – One of my simple, loving, humble disciples” [2] (Adam Clarke – ACC).

Earlier in this passage, Jesus said –

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me; it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6).

“Jesus said that these angels continually view the face of my Father, meaning they have access to the heavenly throne and constantly present the needs of believers to God” [3] (CSB).

“For I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”
Not only does God the Father watch over His little ones, but He also enlists some of His angels to do so as well (Psalm 91:10-11; Acts 12:15; Hebrews 1:14).  This should not surprise us, for God has some of His angels represent the nations (Daniel 10:13; 12:1).  Some of His angels represent the churches (Revelation 1:20).

“By connecting these little ones to guardian angels, Jesus communicates their infinite worth; they mean so much to the Father that His angels watch out for them” [4] (FSB).

“Seeing God has commanded His Angels to take charge of His children, the wicked may be assured that if they despise them, God will revenge their cause” [5] (Geneva).

At the beginning of the War between the States, George Root wrote this gospel song about children that we still sing today.  Since God loves all the children, how much more He must love those who are His own.

Jesus loves the little children, [6]
All the children of the world,
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Jesus died for all the children,
All the children of the world,
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight,
Jesus died for all the children of the world.

Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world,
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Quotes:  “We certainly do have angels watching over us and ministering to us (Hebrews 1:14), but there is no need to limit it to only one specific ‘guardian angel’” [7] (Guzik – EWC).  With God and His angels watching over us, what do we have to fear?  NOTHING!!
