Big Shoulders (Part 2 of 2)

Christians are humble.

March 29, 2020

"Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time; casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you."

1 Peter 5:5-7

Part 2

Yesterday:
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.”
Submission to authority is still necessary, according to God.

“Yea, all of you be subject one to another.”
We are accountable to, and we are accountable for each other.

“And be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”
When we put on our “servants’ apron,” God’s grace is available.

“Humble yourselves, therefore.”
“And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23:12).

Today:
“Under the mighty hand of God.”
This is an Old Testament picture of how God worked with man.  His hand is mighty.

“As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you” (Ezekiel 20:33).

We are living in the end times when we can see God’s “mighty hand” moving all around our world.  It’s amazing how slow the lost are to realize this.  And I’m afraid that sometimes believers don’t recognize it either.  What is the answer to the pestilence, hunger needs, and destructive weather patterns in our world today?  It is this, “humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God.”

“That he may exalt you in due time.”
Note that when we humble ourselves that He is the one who will exalt us.  It is also important to note that He will promote us when the time is right, and not a moment before.  We need to be patient and rest in Him.  Without humility, we don’t see God’s grace as he would like to give it to us because “God resists the proud.”

“Casting all your care upon him.”
When we give God our care, we no longer have to carry it.  Don’t be proud and think you can carry your burden by yourself, you cannot.  Not for long anyway.  The reason we won’t cast our care on Him is our pride.  The humble have no problem admitting their needs and inabilities, casting them upon His shoulders is a great relief.

“For He careth for you.”
Someone cares!  God does!  And specifically, He cares for you!  Don’t go it alone; let Him meet your need today.

Believers, are we holding onto our burdens?  Or are we rolling the troubles from our shoulders to His?  His shoulders are big enough to carry every one of our needs.  Let’s be humble and roll our needs onto His shoulders.
