When God's People Suffer

You have heard ungodly people ask this question, “If there is a God, and He is good, why does He allow suffering?” And even believers going through difficult trials are tempted to ask similar questions. However, believers understand that we live in a sin-cursed world (Genesis 3:16-19), and as a result of man’s Fall all humans suffer. We all suffer in kind, but maybe not to the same extent. The better question for the believer to ask is, “Since there is suffering in this world, how does our loving Father respond to the suffering of His child?” This month’s blogs are looking at the Scriptures to see how God uses suffering in our lives, and how He works in us through our difficulties. May these thoughts be both challenging to, and a refreshment for your soul.

To have God's power in my life, I need to share in the fellowship of His sufferings.

"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings ,being made conformable to His death."

The right response to suffering brings about maturity.

"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you."

In God's Church, believers know how to suffer together.

"And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it."

God is bigger than my dilemma!

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Jesus learned through His suffering and we have that opportunity too!

"Though he [Jesus] were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered."

The dearest thing in all the world is personally knowing Jesus Christ.

"Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ."

Philippians 3:8

Are you oppressed or troubled?  Let the LORD be your refuge.

"The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.  And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee."

Psalm 9:9-10

There is joy in suffering for the right thing.

"But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled."

1 Peter 3:14

Suffering for God is better than a short life in sin!

"By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;  Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season."

Hebrews 11:24-25

You have a partner in your service for God.

"But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses. . ."
